For the thinkers and scholars of the world, if you want to be the best, you have to get out of the library! Luckily, these milestones can help a would-be bookworm into becoming a real asset on your next adventure while still leaning into what they know best.
TIER 1 REWARDS
EAGLE-EYED: You have a knack for catching details others miss. +2 to an INT or WIS roll after an ally failed their roll for the same thing.
FIELD TOOLS: A small kit of picks, lenses, tweezers, wires, and brushes. You can investigate or disarm delicate mechanisms and artifacts without rolling HARD.
NOTEBOOK OF THEORIES: Between sessions, add a “note” about one thing you encountered last session, future related ATTEMPTS are EASY.
TIER 2 REWARDS
BOOK ARMOR: Every EQUIPPED book item grants +1 DEF. By destroying a book, you can ignore the damage from an incoming hit up to 10 HP.
REVERSE ENGINEER: When examining unfamiliar tech, relics, or arcana, roll EASY to determine how to activate or replicate it. On a 15+, you can jury-rig a single use of the subject.
METHODICAL APPROACH: If you fail a roll, you may re-roll by taking extra time and reducing a current TIMER by one.
TIER 3 REWARDS
ROSETTA PENDANT: By focusing on this ancient totem, translate pure knowledge to skill. As action, roll INT. On a 15+, move 1 STAT point from one stat to another.
MENTOR: Choose an ally. They gain a +1 to any INT or WIS-related ATTEMPTS when working alongside you.
ACADEMIC CONTACT: You’ve established correspondence with a peer at the local university. Once per session, send off a “question” and receive a valuable piece of information or theory in the following session.
TIER 4 REWARDS
BOOK OF LIFE: Heal 1 HEART for yourself or an ally by reading from the book and reducing your maximum HP by 1. You can also revive one fallen ally by trading your life for theirs.
BOOK OF DEATH: Deal 1 HEART of damage to a target by reading from the book and reducing your maximum HP by 1. You can also kill one target by sacrificing your life for theirs.
ATLANTEAN TRIDENT: Store the life force of fallen foes and unleash upon the enemies of Atlantis. When dealing the final blow to an enemy, store their maximum HP as potential damage. Unleash all stored energy in a single attack. When acquired, roll D100 in secret as the previously stored energy.
